Drink More Starbucks
Last night 60 Minutes did a segment on Howard Schultz, the founder of Starbucks. I've been drinking Starbucks coffee for quite some time, and yes, I've sometimes complained about the prices. After last night, though, I never will again--in fact, I'll buy Starbucks more often.
At one point during the interview Schultz talked about the financial difficulties his father had after having an accident. He couldn't work anymore, and they had no health insurance. Years later, Schultz promised that all of his employees, even those who work part time, would get health insurance. Yes, he passes on some of that cost to consumers--and guess what? I don't mind paying more for each and every one of those cups of coffee if it means the employees get this benefit. We live in a time when corporate greed is worse than ever, and here's a guy who says I can do with less if my employees can have a little more. Here's to you, Mr. Schultz.
