Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens

Andy Pettitte apologized for using HGH in order to heal from an injury. In addition to apologizing to his boss George Steinbrenner and his teammates, Pettitte said, "I am sorry, especially [to] any kids who look up to me." And therein lies the difference between Pettitte and Roger Clemens. Pettitte's actions reflect his moral character; Clemens's actions reflect his hubris.

Even if Clemens is cleared of the charges against him, it won't matter in the end. He'll now be remembered as just another arrogant athlete who believes he can sway public opinion in his favor, not realizing that every word coming out of his mouth further diminishes his reputation. As Casio said after a drunken spree, "O, I have lost my reputation! I have lost the immortal part of myself, and what remains is bestial." Othello
