Isn't blogging writing?

I've often wondered why some people are afraid of learning something new. When I first learned about blogging, I couldn't wait to try it. Obviously, I don't blog often--but I do write often. I have quite a few blog entries that are still in the drafting stage, but I know they're there, waiting to be posted. Students love to write--if they are not bound by the strictures of form and content. Eventually they bring some of their entries to a formal essay, but not until after they have found their voice. Imagine--students who are disappointed when we miss a day in the writing lab. There's a new movie coming out that focuses on an English teacher who has her students write--I'll bet she read Nancy Atwell and Lucy Calkins.
